of it’s members.  Please plan to attend the Region One meetings whenever possible.

AUGUST MEETING.  We were graciously hosted by the Brenham CPAAA on August 13th.  After a welcoming greeting by the Brenham Chief Petrash and Liaison Officer Tommy Nettle and Brenham President Bob Armour, an excellent program on Accident Reconstruction was presented by the TEEX Training Coordinator.   A special guest, Mr. David Jusiewicz of Mansfield, gave an overview of the state organization, its new bylaws and the progress being made in establishing the new organization.  Many questions were asked about the future of the state convention and the state organization and were answered by David.  One interesting point that was brought out was that an Alumni member may become a member of the state organization by going to the convention where $10.00 of his registration fee is for state membership or by paying $10.00 for a membership fee if you do not go to the convention. A motion was made and approved that profits from the sale of pins and patches would go to the scholarship fund.  Region One needs to elect one civilian member and one officer as delegates to the state organization.  They must be willing to attend the board meetings whenever possible.  To nominate a civilian or officer, e-mail Jeanne Canales at ladybugjean@sbcglobal.net .  The resignation of director Billie Richey of Houston was accepted and a motion was made and approved to leave the post vacant until the election of new officers in November.  There were 40 Alumni members present representing 12 Associations.

Harris County Sheriff.  Harris County CPA has 5 districts. District III gives a birthday card to each deputy in its district, along with a gun cleaning cloth. Last year the gift was a pair of handcuffs. District IV does finger printing once a year at a chiropractor. This will be the 4th year, probably in October. On September 24th, we will be participating in “Law Enforcement Day” at Greenspoint Mall (Highway 45 & Beltway 8). Local, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies bring statistic displays, booths, etc. to interact with the public. Anyone wanting a booth, contact Margaret Hooper. Booth must be pre-registered, cannot just show up.  For the first time in my knowledge, officers from the Harris County Sheriff’s office attended a state CPA Convention.  Both Major Robert Van Pelt, Bureau Commander of the Patrol Support Services Bureau Central Command, and Lieutenant Randy Casteel, under Major Van Pelt, who will be arranging the CPA classes and looking into what the CPAAA can participate in, attended the Waco Convention.  They were both impressed and excited about the prospects of utilizing the Harris County CPAAA in future endeavors.  Both are new to the CPA.                                                                                                                                                               Submitted by Margaret J.
